15 Years Later

Today is September 11... 9/11...

Every time I hear or read September 11 or 9/11, I can't help but think back to that day 15 years ago.  I was working my day job in Midtown Manhattan that day and would have ventured downtown for my night job that evening.

Getting By With a Little Help... From Myself...

So my fitness journey... and really everything else that I enjoy doing... has been essentially non-existent since about March.

It is amazing how you can find the smallest of excuses to not do what it right for you.  And when I say "You" I actually mean "ME"!  I injured my foot in January at about mile 10 of a half marathon.  I was working the Dopey Challenge for those of you who are familiar with the Disney races.  BTW... More posts on the rest of our Disney trip in the very near future :)

Reflections on Being a Mommy

I was one of the many who became a mom for the first time at a later age.  There was really no rhyme or reason for waiting.  It just sort of happened that way.  Getting married and having a family was never one of my "must have" goals.  It if happened, I was ok with it.  And if it never happened, I was ok with that too.  I didn't meet Freddy until I was almost 30 and was 35 when I had Marshall.  So I had a lot of living completed during the time period that we'll call "Before Marshall".

May Goals

As I'm working to get my life organized this year, I've decided to make some monthly goals for myself.  Some of these goals will be goals every month, and others will be just for that month.  For 2016 I really want to focus on my health and fitness by taking some baby steps and finish out the year strong.  I have not been treating myself very well the past 4 months and I'm starting to feel it.  I know I've gained 10 - 15 lbs since January and I find myself winded just walking up the stairs to the 2nd floor of our house.  With Freddy scheduled to deploy later this year and a very active 5 year old, I need to be mentally and physically ready to take on this challenge.

Doing Something Awesome

Around April of last year, I decided that we needed to go on a real family vacation.  In addition, with my 40th birthday coming in 2016, I wanted to do something awesome.  After doing some looking around, I kept coming back to the same idea...  I wanted to take my family to Walt Disney World.

We Are Tired Too!

There was a Facebook post that was going viral earlier in the month where a father was paying tribute to his fiancé, who was a stay at home mom for their young son.  If you haven't seen it, you can read it over on ScaryMommy.com.  I was a little bothered when I read it.  I almost felt the same way I do when I read the military spouse advice posts... left out.

Now, I need to preface this by saying that by no means am I downplaying the amount of work that stay at home moms do in a day.  I do consider that to be a full time job in itself and have a lot of respect for those who decide to stay home.

101 Things in 1,001 Days

Now that we're almost 45 days into 2016, I'm finally now sitting down to think about what I want this year to mean for me.  Instead of trying to accomplish resolutions, which I think I've stated how I feel about those in the past, I've decided to participate in what is called the Day Zero Project.
